Why study this course?
Fine Art gives students the opportunity to both express themselves through the creative process and gain a greater understanding of the world around them. Fine Art helps students develop problem solving skills and encourages them to delve deeper into world issues whilst acquiring a firmer understanding of both traditional and modern approaches to making artwork.
Sandbach College at Sandbach High School Entry Requirements
We ask that all students achieve grade 4 or equivalent (a Level 2 pass) in at least 4 subjects, alongside the following subject specific entry requirements:
- Grade 5 in GCSE Art
or
- Grade 4 in GCSE English
What will I learn on this course?
Students who choose Fine Art at A Level will be introduced to a range of materials, processes and techniques including drawing, painting, ceramics, printmaking and photography amongst others. Students will learn the importance of both contextual and artist research and will develop a greater understanding of how the world shapes the art that we engage with.
Examinations & Coursework
A Level Fine Art comprises of a coursework unit (portfolio) worth 60 % and a practical examination unit set by the exam board worth 40%
Potential career paths
Student who study Fine Art at A Level often go on to careers in Architecture, Graphic Design, Fashion Design, Illustration, Art Therapy, Art Teaching, Independent painting and/or Sculpture and Gallery curation.
Enrichment opportunities
The Art department encourage students to develop their Artwork outside of lesson and are given dedicated spaces in which to do so. Fine Art students are given the chance to travel abroad to see important Architecture and Artwork from around the world. Trips abroad and residential visits have so far included Venice, New York, Amsterdam, Tuscany and Paris.
