Here at Sandbach Sixth Form we have a fantastic reputation for our charity fundraising efforts. We would like to thank parents, staff and the local community for their continued support. Here are some of our latest fundraising efforts!
A recent ladies Pamper Evening hosted by Sixth Formers raised £867.71 for Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust. This charity was chosen because it was close to the heart of one of the team.
During the event, two stall holders spoke privately about being personally affected by the disease and how thankful they were for raising the awareness of the charity.
Twelve local businesses supported the event by setting up their stalls and in turn fund raising for the charity. It was also wonderful to receive the support of eight students from Sandbach School…Boys…to add a twist to the ladies night! They waited on, sold raffle tickets and hosted the bar (those over 18!). Performances for the schools Jazz band and Chloe Ravenscroft as a solo artist went down an absolute storm! Canapés were the ideal accompaniment to the activities…allowing plenty of time to ‘shop till you drop’ through the night!
As part of the BTEC course Sixth Form Students organised a Mini Marathon for both year 7 and 8 girls. Over half of the year participated in order to raise money for cancer research during lesson time. The Sixth Form students showed good leadership and teamwork skills to arrange the younger girls in a safe well organised manner. Through good advertisement around school the girls raised £121.30 for Cancer Research, our charity of the year.
After months of thorough planning and organisation, on Sunday the 15 of November 2015, one Year 13 Business class hosted a charity afternoon tea event. The course specification required students to plan a charity event for a minimum of 100 guests. In fact, they actually ended up exceeding this by 60 guests for an even bigger and better event.
Held at Cranage Hall, guests were greeted by the school’s jazz band, which created a wonderful atmosphere to set the scene. Guests were also treated to further musical entertainment provided by Alice White and Claudia Fenoglio (Year 13) who sang in harmony to an acoustic guitar accompaniment.
After everyone had indulged in their afternoon tea, students hosted a raffle, followed by an auction. Planning for this in the weeks building up to the event required the team to send what felt like countless emails asking local businesses if they would support the event by donating prizes. Many businesses of Sandbach and the surrounding areas provided excellent prizes, which students were very grateful for.
The auction brought the event to a close and was carried out by a professional auctioneer from Andrew Hilditch & Son Ltd.
In total, £2,200 was raised for their chosen charity, Cancer Research UK.
Mr Shaw, the class teacher said, ‘The afternoon was a total success, the planning and execution of the event demonstrated teamwork, communication and decision-making amongst all students which was nothing short of complete professionalism throughout.’
One student said, ‘We are delighted with this final figure and also how successful our event was. We feel our hard work over the last few months has really paid off.’
In June 2015 over 1000 people including students and staff stepped out against Cancer on a 5K walk which concluded at Sandbach Rugby Club where everyone enjoyed a mass picnic in glorious sunshine.
The event raised £2397.13 for Cancer Research in memory of teacher Mrs Karen Leigh who sadly lost her battle with cancer at the end of 2014.
