Why study this course?
This course gives learners a real, in-depth understanding of how computer technology works. Learners will no doubt be familiar with the use of computers and other related technology from their other subjects and elsewhere. Computer Science will give them an insight into what goes on ‘behind the scenes’, including computer programming and the physical technology itself.

We ask that all students achieve grade 4 or equivalent (a Level 2 pass) in at least 4 subjects, alongside the following subject specific entry requirements:
- Grade 6 Computer (if studied)
or
- Grade 5 in Maths (or must take Core Maths if 4)
What will I learn on this course?
A Level Computer Science offer an understanding and ability to apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including: abstraction, decomposition, logic, algorithms and data representation. The ability to analyse problems in computational terms through practical experience of solving such problems, including writing programs in the Java programming language. The course offers you the opportunity to see relationships between different aspects of computer science.

Potential career paths
Computer Science is in demand right now with employment opportunities projected to grow 15% from 2019 to 2029, according to the BLS. As the need for technology grows and new technology is introduced, the demand for computer Scientists will grow. This can include; data collection and data mining services, cybersecurity and software efficiency.
