Gold Duke Of Edinburgh
There are three levels; Bronze, Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. You must be 14 to begin working towards your Bronze, 15 for Silver and 16 for Gold.
To achieve each award participants must complete a programme of activities in four or five sections; volunteering, skills, physical, expedition and, for Gold only, residential.
With the help of Leaders, participants select their own programme of activities and set themselves objectives. It’s not a competition or about being first. It’s all about self-development.
Its balanced programme develops the whole person – mind, body and soul, in an environment of social interaction and team work.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award at Sandbach College
Currently we offer the Gold Awards to students in Year 12 and Year 13.
The Award is supported and run by members of staff and friends of the School. They help organise and lead the training and assessed expeditions which take place in the Peak District and Snowdonia.
We are happy to offer advice on the purchase of speciality outdoor equipment although none is required for Bronze and a luxury on Gold. Participants can usually receive a 10% discount on outdoor equipment at Cotswold’s outdoor shop. However, we can provide participants with tents, stoves, rucksacks, coloured maps and compasses for the duration of their expedition. We also can provide and additional camping equipment on request.
On completion of the Gold Award participants and a guest are invited to attend a formal presentation by The Duke of Edinburgh and mingle with celebrity supporters at St James Palace.
