Why study this course?
Travel and Tourism covers a wide range of employment opportunities in one of the fastest growing and exciting industries in the world. It includes jobs in airlines and hotels, tour operators and travel agents, tourist attractions, conferences and events, hospitality and entertainment.
Students gain an in-depth knowledge of the industry, covering a wide range of topics as well as developing critical thinking and practical skills such as teamwork, customer service and communication.

We ask that all students achieve 4 GCSEs at grade 4 (or Level 2 Pass) or higher
What will I learn on this course?
Learning experiences will include research, discussion, PowerPoint presentations, role play and written portfolios. Students will develop a strong sense of self-motivation coupled with an ability to organise independent research. The development of communication and teamwork skills will play a key role as students will experience real life situations within the tourism industry.
Examinations & Coursework
The course is assessed through a combination of examination, controlled assessment and coursework as follows:
-The World of Travel and Tourism (written examination)
-Global Destinations External (controlled assessment)
-Principles of Marketing in Travel and Tourism (coursework)
-Visitor Attractions (coursework)
Potential career paths
Students over the last 3 years have gone on to work specifically in the travel industry, working as cabin crew for British Airways and Virgin. One of our past students is now running the Falmouth Sailing Club!
Successful completion of this course opens a wide range of options including:
- progression to Higher Education on degree/HND programmes e.g. Event Management
- employment in all sections of the travel and tourism market: students have gone on to be Cabin Crew for British Airways, Virgin and BMI
- employment in a wide range of other businesses
Enrichment opportunities
Visits to Manchester Travel Show, East Midlands Airport, Congleton Tourist Information Centre and Chester Zoo.
Travel and Tourism students are encouraged to play an active role in school life, particularly with any trips that are running; they offer an advice service to students and staff who are also planning events and trips around school.
